Welcome to the Hill & Dale District of Garden Clubs!
We are the Hill & Dale District of Garden Clubs and in turn, also of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs. There are 14 districts in Washington State with over 130 Garden Clubs. Plus we have a State Convention every year. The Mission Statement of the National Garden Clubs, Inc. is to provide education, resources and national networking opportunities for its members to promote the love of gardening, floral design, civic and environmental responsibility.
We have 8 clubs on the east side of Pierce County and are always accepting new members. Our District meetings are quarterly with horticulture and design shows you may enter, as well as 2 programs on many varied subjects. Contact the District Director, Judy Strickland, jasmum@comcast.net or 253-845-3946, for more information or any of the clubs listed above, under the tab Clubs. Also be sure to read the Meetings updates and come on out and join us!
There are many activities in which you may participate. We hold a wonderful workshop in March, at the Waller Road Grange that features a morning and afternoon program guaranteed to peak everyone’s interest. Our Annual Plant Sale will be held April 28th at 9 am in the parking lot of the United Methodist Church on W. Pioneer in Puyallup. Be sure to come early and get some great buys right before Mother's Day! We help at the Floral Building at the Pierce County Fair in Graham every August, providing clerks for the entries for judging, hostessing and helping with the children's planting table. Be sure to bring all the little ones and get their interest in gardening started!
We were recently involved in the plantings of Rain Gardens in a neighborhood in Puyallup, which is a great conservation project. And we helped plant over 500 bulbs at the Soldiers Home in Orting last year, 450 this year. We have an annual Plant Sale in April to raise money for programs and expenses and it always falls right before Mother's Day. We sell many great and varied plants which make perfect gifts! There is always something to keep you busy!
